This extremely well illustrated book examines one of the better fates of the 1,600,000 men conscripted by France during the Napoleonic Wars, that of recruitment as a cavalryman. Even better, Napoleon’s dragoons were not just cavalrymen, they were mounted infantry, trained as an army that was equally at home either charging with the sabre or firing the musket whilst fighting on foot.
